Address Change Process for Kentucky LLC

If you have formed an LLC in the state of Kentucky, you may need to make a change to the mailing address you have listed as the principal office for any reason. this address change online through the Kentucky Secretary of State portal .

Before changing your address, you should consider that you need to pay $10 for this process.

Also, after the address change, the address in the Articles of Organization document still appears as the old address. I have no idea how this changed, but after the change, the state gives you another document regarding the address change.

Below you can see a changed company's past activity on the state portal.

1. The Articles of organization document created for this company, which was formed on April 29, appears on the portal.
2. A change of address certificate was issued for the change made on May 3.
3. As I mentioned at the beginning, the address in the Articles of Organization document created during the formment of the company is still the same, but another valid document (with an area where the company owner can sign) is given.

How to Change Address Step by Step Application

First, find your company on the portal by going to web.sos.ky.gov/ftsearch

Note: These steps are examples. When I search for apple, the companies that appear are listed. You should search for the full name of your own company and find it in the portal.

Find your company on the portal, click on it and click on the "File Statement of Change of Principal Office" button to change the address. In the next step, you will be directed to the address change area.

Your current address appears on this page, you must make the change here. Enter your new address in the relevant table.

In the Aothorized person section, enter the name and surname of the company owner as in the Articles of Organization document. (You can enter Founder in the Title section or leave it blank)

Then click on the pay using credit card button and make the $10 payment with your credit card.

Result: The address change on the portal is being completed. However, as I mentioned, this change is not made in Articles of Organization. Instead, you will be given a change of address document. You can attach this change document to your Articles of Organization submission.

You can download this document as a pdf from the state, you can tell them to download this document to prove that your address has changed, or you can download it and sign it and digitize it.

To avoid having to deal with address changes, always obtain a fixed and unchanging address during installation or provide your correct address to registered agents.

What about the address at the IRS?

If you applied for an EIN with the IRS using your old address, the records there will still appear old and the state records will not affect the IRS. In this case, you need to make an address change with the IRS.

There is a guide for this on the IRS . You can change your address by phone or by filling out a form and physically mailing it to them.

If you are going to call them and change your address, you should prepare the following information in advance. Because you will be asked for this information. Only the company owner or the appointed manager can make this change.
