Choosing an LLC Company Name in the USA

When you decide to form an llc in Usa, you need to give a name to the LLC and you should know that there are some rules during this naming process.

In this guide, we will talk about what you should pay attention to when choosing Usan company names, LLC naming rules, and some restrictions imposed by state. We will also share with you a list of LLC Name Search web addresses for all states in the USA.

What should the LLC company in Usa be called?

Choosing an LLC name has rules and restrictions by state. In summary, the most important rule here is that your LLC name must be unique, that is, distinguishable from other LLCs.

Choosing a good name for your company is crucial to the future value of your business. The name you give to your LLC company will live with you for many years and provide you with prestige as a brand reputation. Think a little while choosing a name for your company, do not make a hasty decision. The company name should be easy to pronounce. When people search for your company, it should be easy for them to find it and when recommended to others, be sure to choose it in a way that is memorable. The company name should not be too long and should be catchy.

Is the LLC Name You're Considering Appropriate? Has It Been Used Before?

You can start by finding out whether the name you will give to your company is actually usable and, most importantly, whether it has been registered by someone else before. The best way to do this is to search the database of the state where you will form the company. At the end of the article, I will share links where you can search for names separately in all states. In this way, you can find out whether the name you have in mind has been used by someone else before.

You should check whether the company name you are considering has already been taken. In this way;

  • In this way, you will not copyright someone else's name rights.
  • Your company name becomes unique and special from others
  • When you choose a Registered Agent and start forming an llc online, this step is already prepared.

LLC Company Name Rules and Limitations in Usa

The following extensions must be added to the end of the LLC company name.

  • Limited Liability Company
  • LLC
  • LLC

Using the above is a must for an LLC

For example; STARTUPSOLE LLC or STARTUPSOLE LLC or STARTUPSOLE Limited Liability Company

LLC Is Not a Corporation

LLC is not a Corporation company, therefore LLC cannot be suffixed with the abbreviations Corporation or Corporation. For example, these cannot come;

  • Corporation
  • Incorporated
  • Corp.
  • Inch.

LLC Name Must Be Unique

The LLC name must be unique and not similar to other previously formed LLC names. If your LLC name is too similar to another company registered in the state, the state may not approve your company name.

This topic is important, so it would be appropriate to give a few examples;

LLC Names Should Not Be Similar to Companies with Corporation Extensions

For example, let's assume the name you want for the LLC YONCA TRADE LLC . You went into the state database and searched for this name YONCA TRADE Corp. You saw that there is a previously registered company named. You cannot give this name to the LLC. Because there is a similarity in names here.

For this reason, you need to find an alternative name. For example, YONCA FINANCE GROUP LLC

Adding Plural Suffixes Doesn't Make the LLC Name Unique

If the name you have in mind has been recorded before, you cannot add the plural suffix to the end. In this case, name similarity occurs.

For example, Yonca Food LLC is the name you have in mind, but if this name has been registered before, you cannot pluralize it and establish a new LLC again. For example, Yonca Foods LLC, this name is not accepted by the state.

Likewise, the following attachments are not accepted.

After searching the state database for the company name you have in mind, you may come across an llc name with the same name. You cannot change this and apply again by using the attachments below. The following suffixes do not make your company name unique.

For example, you cannot add:

“A”, “An”, or “The” “And”, “or”, “&”

Instead of adding the above suffixes and making it look like an existing company, you should change the LLC name and go for a different and unique name.

Hyphens and Punctuation Marks

Likewise, if an LLC with a similar name has previously been registered, you cannot separate your LLC with hyphens “-” (hyphen). This does not distinguish the LLC name from the existing one and does not make it unique.

For example, Yonca Trade LLC is the name in your mind. However, if an LLC has already been registered in this name, you cannot do this;

Yonca-Trade-LLC

Separating it with “-” or “_” does not make your company unique from what exists.

Using Numbers Doesn't Make It Unique

Likewise, adding numbers to the end or beginning of a previously used LLC name does not create uniqueness, and such use is still not accepted.

For example, Yonca Trade LLC is the name in your mind. However, if an LLC has already been registered in this name, you cannot do this;

1 Yonca Trade LLC or Yonca Trade3 LLC usage in this way is similar and is not accepted.

Copies or Deceptive Similarities Will Not Be Accepted

Quick Food LLC in the database , you Quickly Food LLC . This situation creates similarity.

You have to look at alternatives, for example an alternative like Express Food LLC

  • Hello.
    I want to use the name Emin LLC in the company I will establish. I looked in the databases and there is no company by that name. But I just searched the United States Patent and Trademark Office's TESS system and there is an active record for “EMIN”. I think they got a patent. Now, can't I use the name Emin LLC?
    I didn't write via WhatsApp because it was late.
    I would be very happy if you answer when you are available.
    Thanks.

      Since this name is not used in the state where you want to install, there will be no problem. If this name was already recorded in the state database, you would not be able to install it in the first place.

      However, if you have a plan to patent it in the future, you can choose an alternative name and register your company under that name.

      • No, I searched in both NM and WY, but neither of them has an llc with that name. But should having such a patent scare me? Is it okay if I use it as an llc name? I had no plans to get a patent, but is there a need?

          You do not need to obtain a patent, and if the same name is not used in the state where you plan to establish it, it will not be a problem.
          There is nothing to fear, don't worry.

  • Admin, is there a need to check the suitability of the name we will choose in each state? Or is it enough if we just look in the state where we will form the company?

    • Mr. Mustafa, it is enough to just check the name in the state where you will install, but copyright etc. Stay away from critical names that may

  • Hello, this is a great topic.

    I'm wondering: When applying for LLC through Registered Agent, should our company name (let's assume we are going to form an e-commerce system) and our website name be the same? So while BAMBASKA, LLC is the company name, can cokbaska.net be the name of the website or activity?

    Thanks, good work

    • Hello,

      You can use any name you want, it has nothing to do with the site name, unless this name has not been used before in the state you will form. Let's assume that you have formed an llc called AAA.LLC, so you can buy a BBB.com domain and do your online business.

      There is no limitation on this, but it may be important for the customer that the company name is compatible with the work done. For example, your company, HIRDAVAT LLC, will appear on the invoice (assuming that you have formed an LLC with this name) and if you have a site called chocolate.com, this may be strange if you are interested in the food business. Other than that, there is no limitation.
